Brothers,
I have two desires which war strongly in my soul. One, the desire for continued study and learning. The other, the inherent and often winner in this struggle, my own laziness. Perhaps others of you have felt similar things. I will use the feel-felt-found sales technique to drive this home. You might say, "Jared, I understand how you feel. Many other graduates have felt this way...but what they've found is that if we hold each other accountable, we can read difficult works incrementally and discuss them."
In lights of these weighty ruminations, I propose that we read a book together and discuss it on this blessed blog. Please respond oh so promptly with book reccommendations if you embrace this idea wholly ere we can start so rewarding and useful a journey. We can do no other, God help Colby.

O brother, I assent and consent. Hmm, but what shall we read...
I have a lot of theology books to read, but we've done that... haha. Philosophy? History? We haven't really read history together... Or literature? A classy classic? I have just finished reading The Supremecy of God in Preaching and The Abolition of Man. I'm in the middle of a coupla others, but am willing to move in any direction. I start working at Barnes and Noble next week, so I'll be able to make many offers and recommendations then. But we should probably start sooner... Let me know what you think!
I am in total agreeance with the idea of reading accountabllity and am with Josh in flexibility. I am currently reading In the Lord's Prescence, Living by the Book, and UnChristian. Congrats Josh, on the new job, you will be able to keep us up-to-date on what is new on the market.
Two things:
First of all, what do you guys think about translating something together? We are all fluent in the words of both Testaments...
Secondly, I'm pretty sure agreeance is not a word... sorry Rick. You and Kyle can hate me for that one.
We can translate somethng together that is one of many common bonds we share and I will be in agreement with Josh that the word agreeance is no longer acceptable in the English language, das ist schade.
if we were to read a book together in the line of philosophy and theology, I would propose Purity of Heart is To Will One Thing by Kierkegaard. I have read it through once in December, but I've been planning on reading it again, and it would be a great book for discussion.
We could do both... I am translating through Zechariah (zachar - remember, YH - Lord) as my Pastor preaches through it... we could set up a system for that if ya'll wanted to. I'm rusty, but I think we all are, so we could help each other slowly to remember things.
And I'm not surprised that Jeremy would want to read something by a Russian...
kierkegaard is danish
kierkegaard is danish. We can do both; translate Zechariah and read Purity of Heart is To Will One Thing by Kierkegaard (in which I need to retain a copy). I will be looking forward to our discussions in philosophy and polishing up on the Hebrew-English translations. You guys are a great encouragement and it is a joy to express the desire to learn in which I think our generation has lost fervor in doing so.
Same general area... Eurasia. I believe you guys, but isn't Soren a Russian name?
Not that this is much of a debate but I just looked up Soren and it is or Danish/Norwegian origin meaning, thunder or war.
Oh, and I ordered my copy of Purity of Heart is To Will One Thing by Kierkegaard last night as well!
so it seems that we are decided to read kierkegaard and translate zechariah as well. am i correct in this assumption?
It's a go for me, I just have to pick up that particular book by the Danish man... and thunder is a cool name.
Sounds cool. I would like to join in, but I have major transition coming up, like marriage and transcontinental moving. Give me a schedule and I will join in. Blast, I am the scheduler...
